Volkswagen Innovation – More Than A Car

Volkswagen has long been known for innovative technology in quality vehicles that perform. Exciting features and ideas have brought the Volkswagen brand forward in terms of fuel efficiency, performance and driving comfort. Concepts like the BlueMotion engine, which is now standard across a large portion of the range, stand testament to the dedication Volkswagen have to producing on the best.

Do you know the difference between TDI, DSG and TSI? Find out more about the vehicles you love below and discover why your choice in next car isn’t what brand, but what Volkswagen.

Assistance Systems – Driving Smartly

In an endeavour to make driving vehicles safer and more enjoyable, Volkswagen offers a range of assistance systems that keep you on the road and out of trouble.

Some of the vehicles come with these features as standard or they can be added in as an extra in some instances.

Lane Assist, Side Assist & Brake Assist

Be warned not only when you are veering out of your lane but also if there is a vehicle in your blind spot that is hazardous if you are trying to change lanes. Helpful for highway driving and long journeys.

The Brake Assist will also recognise when a driver is attempting an emergency stop and engage the ABS and ESP to apply maximum braking power while still allowing the driver to maintain control of the vehicle.

Park Pilot, Park Assist and Rear Assist

No matter how good your parking skills; there is always a situation where a bit of help is needed. The Park Pilot is the traditional auditory parking assist noise that beeps with increasing intensity depending on the proximity of another object (or vehicle). The Rear Assist feature is a visual aid that brings up a live feed of what is behind you from a camera onto the onboard computer. With built-in guidelines you can easily see how much space you have to manoeuvre.

Taking it a step further the Park Assist actually engages your vehicles sensors to find a suitable parking place and the vehicle will move itself into the parking space, taking control of the steering and gears. All the driver has to do is gently engage the accelerator and brake to control the speed of the vehicle based on the surrounding requirements.

BlueMotion – Innovative Volkswagen Technology

Volkswagen is dedicated to ensuring that their vehicles make as little impact on the environment as possible. As a result of the ‘Think Blue’ philosophy within the brand, the BlueMotion engine came about. This revolutionary engine has seen a number of the Volkswagen vehicles reduce their fuel consumption and carbon emissions, which is great for the environment and great for your pocket.

Small changes make a big difference. That is the motto of the BlueMotion team and the engine can offer up to a 10% reduction in fuel and emissions, depending on your driving style.

Key changes that have made a big difference across the BlueMotion range are:

Energy Recuperation

Recharging the battery when decelerating and less on accelerating harness efficient energy consumption

Stop-Start Technology

Seamless switching-off of the engine when it is stationary and starting up again when the appropriate pedal movement is engaged.

Low-Rolling Resistance Tyres

Tyres that need less engine power to turn without reduction in performance. These are combined with lightweight alloy wheels for improvements in aerodynamics.

TDI or TSI engines

Depending on whether you are driving a diesel or a petrol, our award winning engine choices ensure fuel efficient driving with low emissions.

Gear Rations

Maximum fuel efficiency can be attributed in part to longer gear ratios in higher gears.

Lighter Vehicles

All of the vehicles in the BlueMotion range have a much lighter body mass to increase fuel efficiency

Lowered Suspension

On the Polo & Golf models the lowered suspension offers improved aerodynamics and reduced drag co-efficiency

Drag Co-efficient

Specialist covers reduce the drag co-efficiency on BlueMotion vehicles in addition to closed front grilles and a modified tailgate spoiler.

If you aren’t a car fanatic, navigating the world of anachronisms when looking for a new vehicle can be daunting. Find out below what all the Volkswagen terms actually mean to you and your driving style.

TDI stands for turbo-charged direct diesel injection. A TDI vehicle means that even in low gears you will experience the power of the vehicle. It also highlights that the vehicles is fuel-efficient and a smooth drive. Excellent for those who look for comfort and control in their vehicles.

Turbo-charged direct injection, the proper term for an engine that offers you a fuel efficient, low emissions car. Don’t be fooled by the small numbers that come with TSI engines, the 1.2 offers a similar performance to a 2-litre engine at almost half the size and weight.

DSG is a dual-clutch gearbox, which means that you get a smooth and fast gear change for maximum performance. It also has the bonus of giving you lower fuel consumption. So for those of you who like to drop-it-like-it’s-hot, a DSG gearbox is what you want.
